Penelitian tersebut telah dilakukan oleh peneliti Australia di tahun 2009 dan telah diterbitkan dalam Archives of Internal Medicine. Kopi diduga meningkatkan toleransi tubuh terhadap glukosa dengan mempercepat metabolisme dan meningkatkan toleransi insulin.

Konsumsi kopi meningkatkan kadar protein yang disebut hormon seks pengikat globulin (SHBG), yang tampaknya menawarkan perlindungan terhadap diabetes tipe 2 pada orang yang memiliki jenis tertentu dari mutasi genetik.

2. Kopi dapat melawan sel kanker

Telah ada bukti bahwa kopi dapat melindungi terhadap kanker tertentu, mungkin dengan meningkatkan perbaikan DNA. Beberapa studi telah menemukan hubungan terbalik antara konsumsi kopi dan risiko kanker hati.

Peneliti menemukan manfaat yang sama dari minum kopi dibandingkan bentuk lain dalam pencegahan kanker. Pada tahun 2011, tim Harvard menemukan bahwa perempuan yang minum beberapa cangkir kopi sehari memiliki risiko lebih rendah terkena kanker endometrium.

Studi lain pada tahun 2011 di Harvard melaporkan bahwa, untuk pria yang mengkonsumsi 6 cangkir kopi sehari, risiko kanker prostat mematikan sepenuhnya 60 persen lebih rendah, dan risiko dari setiap jenis kanker prostat adalah 20 persen lebih rendah.

Penelitian lain telah mengaitkan minum kopi dengan penurunan risiko kanker usus besar, kanker dubur, kanker mulut dan kanker kerongkongan. Kopi mengandung ratusan senyawa kimia, diantaranya senyawa antioksidan dan antiinflamasi yang dapat menurunkan penanda untuk proses kerusakan peradangan.

Senyawa antioksidan yang sangat aktif, misalnya methylpyridinium, ditemukan hampir secara eksklusif dalam kopi, karena proses pemanggangan biji kopi. Espresso memiliki 2-3 kali jumlah senyawa antikanker.

3. Kopi dapat menurunkan risiko demensia (pikun)

Para ilmuwan masih belum sepenuhnya memahami apa yang menyebabkan perubahan otak yang terkait dengan penyakit Alzheimer. Tetapi para ilmuwan belajar lebih banyak tentang faktor risiko demensia dan kebiasaan minum kopi hangat tampaknya dapat menurunkan risiko.

Orang yang mengonsumsi 3-5 cangkir kopi sehari 65 persen lebih rendah untuk mengembangkan demensia. Para peneliti percaya sifat antioksidan dari kopi dapat bekerja untuk mengurangi bentuk demensia vaskular. Minum kopi sudah dikenal melindungi terhadap diabetes tipe 2, penyakit kronis yang meningkatkan risiko demensia.

Penelitian pada hewan menunjukkan bahwa kafein dalam kopi dapat meningkatkan efisiensi penghalang darah otak, menggagalkan efek negatif dari kolesterol tinggi pada fungsi kognitif. Ada juga kemungkinan bahwa peminum kopi hanya memiliki lebih banyak energi dan bergerak lebih. Peneliti menunjukkan bahwa olahraga juga merupakan pelindung terhadap demensia.

4. Kopi melindungi dari penyakit Parkinson

Setidaknya untuk pria, tampaknya cukup jelas bahwa kopi membantu menurunkan kemungkinan berkembangnya penyakit Parkinson. Dibandingkan dengan abstain, orang-orang yang mengonsumsi 2-3 cangkir kopi berkafein sehari memiliki risiko 25 persen lebih rendah dari Parkinson.

Para peneliti tidak yakin mengenai mekanisme pelindung tersebut, atau bahkan apakah senyawa kafein cukup bermanfaat sebagai pelindung. Faktor genetika mungkin juga memainkan peran. Sebuah hasil studi menemukan bahwa, subyek yang melakukan beberapa jenis gen yang disebut GRIN2A menerima manfaat dari kopi pada saraf yang melawan Parkinson.

5. Kopi dapat menurunkan risiko depresi

Menurut sebuah hasil studi dengan mengonsumsi kopi dapat menurunkan risiko depresi. Para peneliti dari Harvard School of Public Health melaporkan bahwa, orang yang minum 4 cangkir kopi atau lebih per hari memiliki risiko 20 persen lebih rendah mengalami depresi. Orang yang mengonsumsi 2-3 cangkir sehari memiliki risiko sekitar 15 persen lebih rendah.

Ada juga beberapa bukti bahwa kopi melindungi terhadap depresi pada pria. Minum kopi dapat menyebabkan peningkatan jangka pendek untuk energi dan suasana hati. Kafein dalam kopi mungkin adalah zat yang menyebabkan efek tersebut. Para peneliti Harvard melihat penurunan serupa dalam depresi di antara orang yang minum minuman ringan berkafein.

Reseptor otak yang bereaksi terhadap kafein ditemukan di basal ganglia. Basal ganglia merupakan bagian otak dimana neurotransmitter penting untuk depresi terkonsentrasi. Stimulasi reseptor secara berulang dapat membantu melindungi terhadap perkembangan depresi.

Five youths were killed in a ghastly car accident, paralyzing commercial activities at Elekoyangan and Anfeyin, two communities located along the old Jebba road in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday.
Two others were seriously injuried and were rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, where doctors are battling to save their lives.
The accident occurred around 9.30 p.m. when a Camry car heading towards Ilorin metropolis from Jebba rammed into a stationary Toyota Hiace bus before knocking down the youths.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Camry car, suspected to be drunk, escaped from the scene.
Following the tragic incident, members of the two communities took to the streets to protest the death of the youths.
They set the Camry car on fire and blocked the road for several hours with bonfires made from disused tyres.

A resident of Elekoyangan, Mallam Isiaka Rahman, described the death of the youths:
“It is a sad incident. Our children, Abdulfatai, Sodiq, Fatai Kososi, Jamiu Mogaji and Jamiu were killed in the accident while Shola and Gafar are in a state of coma in the hospital.
During a peaceful demonstration to protest the killing of the youths, the police came and shot sporadically into the air. We had to run for cover. Teargas was also fired to dislodge the protesters,” he dislosed.
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agboola Glover-Oshodi, confirmed the incident and called for calm.
While sympathising with relations of those who lost their lives in the accident, the police boss warned the youths not take the law into their hands, adding that his men would remain in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order

Dilansir Dailymail, Sabtu 7 Desember 2013 untuk mendapatkan Pal-V One, konsumen harus mengucurkan dana cukup banyak, yakni US$295.000 atau sekitar Rp3,5 miliar.

Sebenarnya, secara teknis dan bentuknya, kendaraan ini bukanlah mobil tetapi lebih seperti sepeda motor roda tiga yang dapat berubah menjadi gyrocopter. 

Namun, masih tetap legal untuk dikendarai dan terbang dengan perubahan dalam tempo hanya dalam 10 menit 

Soal kecepatan, mobil ini bisa tembus hingga 112 mph dan melaju dari 0-60 mph dalam waktu kurang dari 8 detik, serta mampu menempuh jarak ketinggian 540 kaki.

Saat berubah menjadi mobil terbang, rotor pada bagian belakang menjadikannya terlihat seperti helikopter, --lebih terlihat gyrocopter atau autogyro.

Kendaraan ini berbobot 1.500 pon yang terbuat dari bahan rangka serat karbon, titanium, dan aluminium. Sehingga cukup ringan untuk diterbangkan.

Untuk dapur pacu, Pal-V One mengusung mesin bensin empat silinder yang dapat menghasilkan tenaga sebesar 230 hp.

Adapun kapasitas tangki bensin dapat menampung 27 galon, dengan jarak perjalanan saat terbang mencapai 220 mil pada ketinggian rendah sekitar 4.000 kaki, atau dikendarai di darat sejauh 750 mil.
